Teacup Addition

Along the shores of Fishers Island - looking out across the Long Island Sound is a quirky coastal home affectionately known as the Teacup House. Our task was to provide an addition to this existing home which would allow for the owner’s growing family to comfortably come and stay with them.

Given that the the existing home was so cherished and unique, our office felt it best to make sure the new addition did not impede upon the teacup. To do this, we designed a space that would be embedded into an existing high grade on the site, which would be invisible from the public dirt road but have clear views out towards the water. Private rooms were to be buried under a planted roof which blends into the landscape and the front public rooms were all to be all stick frame and glass in order to maximize views of the gorgeous beachfront.
